Obituary of Smarandja Sordjan

Smarandja Sordjan, 88, passed away November 11, 2021, in Medford, New York. Smarandja was born February 4, 1933, in Yugoslavia to the late Elena Pakurar and Trifu Vesey. She was one of four children, and survived her two sisters and brother. A devoted wife and mother, Smarandja wore colors of mourning for more than a year when Simeon Sordjan, Sr., her husband of 44 years, preceded her in death December 16, 1999. Smarandja was a Romanian woman devoted to her family and Christ, never missing an opportunity to shower monetary gifts on her family and strangers alike. She worked as a seamstress at Lahm’s knitting factory in Ridgewood, New York, until retiring in 1995 to care for her granddaughter, Katiera. She lavished her grandson Aidan with affectionate care from the time of his birth. Her talents as a cook and seamstress were shared with all of those she adored. She cooked desserts for her son William, and crocheted sweaters, hats and scarves for her grandchildren. Smarandja took great pride in sharing pictures and stories of her family with others, including her best friend Sophie and her neighbor Virginia. Smarandja is survived by her sons Simeon Jr. and William, and William’s two children Katiera and Aidan. Smarandja is especially beloved by her remaining family in Serbia.
