John Hynes

Obituary of John P. Hynes

John Patrick Hynes passed away on Saturday morning October 12, 2019. John was born on February 21, 1956 in Bronx, NY to John and Mary Hynes. John grew up in the neighborhood of Elmhurst, NY where he met a wonderful group of lifelong friends. He was a graduate of Saint Bartholomew Catholic Academy for elementary and middle school, graduated from Saint Francis Preparatory High School in Fresh Meadows, NY. John then lived in California for ten years before advancing his education by receiving his Bachelors degree from Queens College and eventually his J.D. from CUNY Law School in 1998.

John met the love of his life, Vyriam Perez, in Costa Rica in 1989 and got married in December of 1990. They shared a beautiful 28 and a half years of marriage. John had a strong faith in God and was an active member of the Saint Matthias RC Church in Ridgewood.

Unfortunately in 1994, John was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s Disease at the age of 38. However, this did not stop John from continuing on with life. With Parkinson’s Disease and two young boys, John continued and completed his pursuit of his law degree. Upon receiving his law degree, John worked extensively with advocating for the rights of taxi drivers and provided counsel for immigrants.

Those who had the pleasure of knowing John will forever remember a selfless, courageous, strong and helpful man. Despite having challenges and obstacles to overcome himself, he was always the kind of person to recognize some have it worse and was always willing to help them as much as he could. A wonderful, caring husband and father of two, his presence will be missed.

He is survived by his wife Vyriam, two sons Joseph and Patrick Hynes, one brother Michael Hynes and wife Denise of Ringwood, NJ, and two sisters, Mary Downing and husband Patrick (Brian) Downing of West Milford, NJ, and Anne Gassert and husband Frank of Monroe, NY, along with several nieces and nephews.
