Alfonso Solimene will be dearly missed. He just turned 91.

Son - Vito Solimene married to Jennifer Solimene, grandsons Nicholas Solimene & Matthew Solimene
Son - Don Solimene married to Kristen Solimene, grandsons Joseph Solimene & Christopher Solimene

Early Life & Education

  • First generation born during the Great Depression and raised in Brooklyn, then moved with his family to Woodhaven Queens in the 1950's
  • Attended Brooklyn College and Columbia University where he earned a BA and a PhD in Physical Anthropology
  • Drafted into the US Army and was stationed at Kilmer Base NJ

Profession & Later Life

  • Was a beloved Professor of Gross Anatomy with a passion for teaching medical students, artists and dancers
  • Taught at several institutions of higher learning: Columbia Medical School, New York University, New York Medical College, New York School of Osteopathic Medicine, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Juilliard, Pratt Institute and NY Academy of Art
  • Moved to New Brunswick NJ for a brief time while all three of his children attended Rutgers University
  • Spent the rest of his life residing in Woodhaven NY, enjoying time in NYC, cherishing visits with his kids and grandkids and making two unforgettable trips to Italy

Joys & Interests

  • Amateur sculptor and avid photographer
  • Bonsai tree and moss aficionado
  • Proud native New Yorker
  • Proud of his Italian heritage and of Italian history, food, music and art
  • Proud father and grandfather
