Obituary of Elisabeth Roth
Elisabeth Roth was born on August 30, 1937, in Sekitsch, Yugoslavia, to Jacob and Elisabeth Diel. She was the beloved older sister of Jacob, Manfred, Helmut, Ewald, and Johnny. Elisabeth’s early years were marked by the hardships endured by the Donauschwaben community in Yugoslavia following the war. At the age of 8, her family relocated to Magstadt, Germany, seeking a new beginning.
Elisabeth pursued secretarial school and went on to work in the courthouse. At 19, she and her family immigrated to the United States, settling in Ridgewood, New York.
It was in Ridgewood that Elisabeth met her future husband, Adam Roth, a fellow Donauschwaben immigrant, at a popular German social club. The two were married in June 1960 at Trinity Reformed Church, followed by a huge celebration at Ridgewood Hall, and built a beautiful life together.
Elisabeth and Adam welcomed two daughters: Elisabeth, born in April 1963, and Rosemary, born in May 1967. Family was always at the heart of Elisabeth’s life. She took great joy and pride in her role as a mother and later as a grandmother to her three grandsons—Alexander, Anthony, and Nikolas—who brought immense happiness to her life.
Elisabeth will be remembered for her strength, resilience, and unwavering love for her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
