Obituary of Joseph F. Wilfinger

Joseph F. Wilfinger, 88 passed away on February 23,2021. A resident of Ridgewood,Queens,NY for 53 years. Joe was born at home in Yorkville section of NY 411 East 87th St. He was 1 of 8 (only one born in NY) to Austrian parents Anton and Cecilia Wilfinger. He enjoyed playing ball with the neighborhood kids and later became a baseball coach for his new neighborhood kids in Ridgewood. He loved sharing his time with family and faithfully praying and attending mass. He served as an Extraordinary Minister at his parish,St.Matthias for many years and also participated in the choir. He loved to praise God by singing the hymns at mass as well as singing other favorites as Louis Armstrong and Frank Sinatra. His favorite number was 11 and he would always mention it. He graduated Cardinal Hayes High and served in the Army during the Korean War. He worked as a cashier in A&P and later got a job at Kinney Shoe in the mailroom. He worked his way up to becoming an Expense Analyst for Woolworth Corp in the Footlocker division for 30 plus years. He married Alice in 1968 and was a devoted husband and then father to James and Theresa. In 1993 became a grandpa and spent much of his life enjoying his grandkids and family events. He is survived by his 2 children and 4 grandchildren(Anthony,Victoria, Jennifer and Daniel) and sister in law Joan and Debra and brother in law Vincent and many nieces and nephews. He loved sports but most especially baseball and would enjoy playing, watching or going to games at the park or stadium. He brought so much happiness into this world. He could remember peoples names, birthdays and other details for years and he had the gift to talk to anyone and make them feel important. He genuinely cared for others and prayed the rosary daily. He brought so much goodness to this world and had a good soul. Truly one of a kind. God only takes the Best and he will be missed sorely
